UAB confers an honorary doctorate on Josep Pons

Regarding the relationship with the UAB, Pons participated in the advice of the courses of open opera organized by the Gran Teatre del Liceu, which have participated students of the autonomous, and delivered the lecture that inaugurated the course 2015-2016 in the Faculty of Arts. Pons is considered "one of the most relevant Spanish directors of his generation" and a figure that "has opened to new ways of making music heard, introducing transversal visions and projecting towards other genres".
According to the conductor, being appointed honoris causa represents "a great pride and the feeling of being recognized at home". Regarded as one of the most relevant directors of his generation, Josep Pons maintains a continuing relationship with orchestras such as Gewandhauss in Leipzig, Staastkapelle in Dresden, Orchestre de Paris, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, WDR Köln, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen or BBC Symphony Orchestra, with whom he has made several appearances on BBC Proms in London.
He is the musical director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and honorary conductor of the National Orchestra and Choir of Spain. He has been the principal and artistic director of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and was founder of the Orquestra de Cámara Lliure in Barcelona and the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia. He was music director of the Olympic ceremonies Barcelona 92. In 1999 he was awarded the "National Music Prize" by the Ministerio de Cultura and is an academician of the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts.
He has recorded over fifty titles for Harmonia Mundi and for Deutsche Grammophon, having won the highest awards. Soon will come to market his latest album,'Jeux de Miroirs', dedicated to Ravel, with Javier Perianes and the Orchestre National de Paris (Harmonia Mundi).

The last and successful performances at the Liceu and the international trajectory of the maestro Josep Pons begin to have an impact in Catalonia, as in the case of the recent appointment of the UAB by the director of the orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu as Doctor honoris causa to the request of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.
