Josep Pons is Musical Director of the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and Honorary Director of the National Orchestra and Choir of Spain. He is also the Honorary Director of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, of which he was the titular and artistic conductor, and founder of the Orchestra of Cambra Teatre Lliure in Barcelona and the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya. He was musical director of the Barcelona 92 Olympic Ceremonies.
As musical director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, he directs numerous productions in Barcelona, where this season he has premiered a successful Turandot commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Liceu and will head the Lohengrin of Katharina Wagner next March.
Recently, he has been distinguished with the recognition of Doctor honoris causa by the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona and has released an album with Javier Perianes and the Paris Orchestra dedicated to Ravel.
